Black Sticky Rice - 'khaao niaao darm' - ข้าวเหนียวดำ

Serves: Two (2) People


  • 2 cups x Black Rice - sometimes called Forbidden Rice, or Indonesian Black Rice
  • 5 cups x Water
  • 2 cups x Sugar
  • 1 tspn x Salt
  • 1 carton 250mls x Coconut Milk


In your Rice Cooker, cook the Black Rice with the Water - until it is soft. This is very important, as Black Rice is a harder rice than its white cousin.

Once it is soft, add the Sugar, and stir until the sugar dissolved.
Allow to cool.

Mix the Coconut milk with the Salt, and serve in a separate bowl for self-service, as an accompaniment.
